Oh Canada!

Who knew time could move so fast?!

My plan to regularly update my blog has quickly gone out the window as we get properly stuck in to our new lives here, and we’re already three months in to our Visa’s.

So when better to write a new post than after Canada 150 weekend. Gethin and I both had a full three days off from work and couldn’t wait to get involved with the celebrations.

After initially planning on hiring a car for a day trip out of town, we decided instead to stay in the city.

With summer well under way, we had all weekend to take in the city sites and bask in the sunshine.

Like all good Canadians, we started our Saturday with pancakes, bacon and maple syrup, and finished the day with poutine, beer and burgers. We made our way to Nathan Philips Square by the evening, where they had a concert going on and fireworks set for 11pm. Though there were loooooads of people there, we were actually quite disappointed with the poor sound quality of the entertainment, and the lacklustre fireworks display. But hey ho, we were there I guess, and we still enjoyed ourselves.

Sunday we paid a visit to the Giant Rubber ducky at the Redpath Waterfront Festival. I’m not quite sure how a 13 tonne duck costing $120,000 is relevant to Canada’s 150th birthday, but we took a selfie with it anyway, then wandered round the market stalls daydreaming about owning a yacht.

Being from Pembrokeshire, no sunny bank holiday is complete without a trip to the seaside. So, on Monday, after we’d stuffed our faces with brunch we waddled on down to the beach to show off our pale British bods. Typical Brits abroad that we are, we now have matching patchy sunburns randomly splotched across our torsos. We’ll never learn.

We had hoped to get Cassie more involved with the weekend, and get her used to busy environments. We knew travelling with our dog would have ups and downs before we came,  yet she’s behaved better than we had expected.

However she’s still prone to the same mishaps as any other dog, and appears to have been bitten by something, causing her back paw to swell up and become painful to rest weight on. So she’s under house arrest at the moment, much to her immense displeasure. But you have to be cruel to be kind sometimes #mumlife
